Getting onto the land, and looking after it once you are there.

Most excavation is described as a list of machines and services. The work that actually matters here is simpler to say: can you get to your property, is the ground ready to build on, and will the timber around the house help a fire or slow one down.

Getting in

A new property is not much use without a way onto it. Roads cut in, driveways bladed and gravelled, culverts installed, potholes taken out before they become washouts. If the road exists but stops being a road every spring, that is a drainage problem and it is fixable.

Ground that is ready

Building pads, site development, rock removal and auger work for holes and footings. The point of site prep is that the next trade turns up and starts rather than standing about, so it gets done to grade and it gets done on time.

Thinning, and why it is not just tidying

Tree thinning and brush clearing are usually sold as making a place look better. That is the least of it.

Thinned ground carries less fuel, so a fire moving through it stays lower and slower, which is the difference between a defensible property and one the crews have to write off. The forest itself does better with room — fewer stems competing, healthier trees left standing. And once the canopy opens, ground cover comes back, which brings the deer and elk in to forage. The view is the part people notice last.

Clearing and hauling

Land clearing and stump removal where something is going to be built, and hauling to get the material off the property afterwards. One outfit, so nobody is waiting on somebody else's truck.
