Island Service Company

Building, septic, docks and winter care for island homes on Lake Winnipesaukee.

A partnership of two builders working out of Meredith, New Hampshire, with a crew of local craftsmen and their own barge. If it has to cross the water to get to your house, that is the part we do.

What needs doing on the island?

Twenty-one things. Pick the closest one — it jumps to the section that covers it, and every section has the phone number in it.

01

Building and carpentry

Custom homes, general contracting, renovations and additions, and interior and exterior construction. Marc is the framer; Paul has spent his working life building custom homes. Between them and a crew of local craftsmen, a house on an island gets built the same way a house on the road does — the difference is entirely in the logistics, and the logistics are ours.

Photograph needed Use the framed house in the snow that is already your homepage banner — it is the single best picture on your site and right now it is decoration behind the words rather than a project you get credit for. Caption it with the island and the year.

02

Island septic, permits and site work

This is the job most contractors will not take. A septic system on an island means getting an excavator across the water, working a site with no road behind it, and holding the local permits before any of it starts. Paul is a licensed septic installer in the State of New Hampshire, which is why we can do the installation and not just the digging.

Photograph needed An excavator on an island site, mid-installation — ideally with water visible behind it, so a visitor understands in one glance what they are actually paying for. Something from Gallery Of Work will do.

Docks, moorings and ice eaters

Installation and removal on the season's schedule, construction and repair when a winter has taken something apart, and mooring installation and repair. We also install ice eaters and then monitor them — which is the part that matters, because an ice eater nobody checks is the same as no ice eater at all.

The barge — how any of it gets there

Everything above depends on this one. Lumber, an excavator, a new refrigerator, a hot water heater, the old deck you want gone — if it will not fit in a boat, it goes on the barge. Island deliveries and trash and debris removal are jobs in their own right, and plenty of our customers call us only for these.

Opening, closing and winter patrol

Most island owners are not here in February. We open the house in the spring and close it in the fall, and through the winter we patrol properties weekly so that a burst pipe is found on a Tuesday instead of in May. Plumbing, electrical and general home maintenance and repair sit under the same arrangement.

Photograph needed A shuttered island house under snow. This is the service that is hardest to picture and easiest to sell, and it is the one you gave an interview about — that interview should be linked here, not buried at the bottom of the Links page.

What island owners have written

Both of these are already published on islandservicecompany.com. They are set here as real, selectable text, so a search engine and a screen reader can read them.
