02 · Road gravel
Gravel delivered, spread and graded — driveways and private roads that survive a Northern Michigan spring.
Most calls we take about gravel are really calls about potholes, washboard and a two‑track that turns to soup in April. We deliver the material and we place it properly: crown it so water runs off instead of sitting in the wheel tracks, get the depth right for the traffic it actually carries, and compact it so it stays where we put it.

New driveway builds — base, surface course and crown
Resurfacing and regrading of existing gravel drives and private roads
Fill, sand and topsoil hauled in for grading and finish work
Same‑day delivery options when the material is on hand

03 · Excavation
Site prep, trenching, footings and grading — residential lots up to commercial site development.
The owner’s 22 years cover everything from a single‑day backyard dig to multi‑million‑dollar underground utility work, and both get the same treatment: know where the utilities are before the bucket moves, leave the grade where the water wants to go, and put the site back the way the next trade needs it.
Building site prep, clearing and rough grading
Footings, foundation digs and backfill
Trenching for water, sewer and underground utilities
Drainage and finish grading so runoff leaves the building
Demolition and haul‑off of the spoil
Photo needed One open dig with the machine in frame and the house behind it, so the scale of the job reads at a glance. Avery’s existing excavator photo would drop straight in.Talk through your site(231) 631-0855
04 · Septic systems
Septic tanks and drain fields installed, replaced and repaired to Grand Traverse County requirements.
A septic job is the one people put off until the lawn goes soft or the drains back up. It is also the one where the paperwork matters as much as the digging: perc test, county permit, the right tank and field for the soil and the number of bedrooms. We handle the dig and the install and we keep the inspection on the rails.
New septic tank and drain field installation
Tank replacement and failed drain‑field repair
Locating and uncovering an existing tank
Line repairs between the house and the tank
County permit and inspection coordination
Photo needed A tank on the straps going into the hole, or a finished field with the stone in. One photo of this is worth a paragraph of description to a homeowner who has never seen inside a septic job.Septic question? Ask us(231) 631-0855
05 · Emergency
Backed up, broken line, or water where it should not be? We answer at any hour and aim to be on site within four hours.
That is the promise Avery already makes, and it is the reason this page puts the number in front of you eleven times instead of printing it once in small type. Nothing about an emergency should involve copying digits off a screen.
Avery Excavating works out of 7431 M‑72, Williamsburg, MI 49690, in Grand Traverse County. That is the address on every page of this site, in the map link, and in the footer — there is no second town anywhere on it.
A family business since 2015, run by an operator with 22 years in the seat.
Avery Excavating was established in 2015 and is family owned. Owner Kyle Riegle brings over 22 years of industry experience — from small residential digs through to multi‑million‑dollar underground utility renovations — and that range is the point: the crew that grades your driveway is the crew that has run commercial site work.
